A very dear reader let me know that,
Marcella Sembrich made her debut in opera in Athens as Elvira in Bellini's I Puritani on June 3, 1877. She not only sang Puritani, but also Dinorah, Lucia di Lammermoor, Robert le Diable and La Sonnambula!
Also, Giuseppe Anselmi, who probably made his operatic debut in Athens in 1896 or in Patras as Turiddu, sang Arturo in Patras in 1896.
Wanna know what that might have sounded like?
Listen to Marcella Sembrich singing Caro Nome (recorded 2 March 1906)
and Giuseppe Anselmi in Amor ti vieta (recorded in 1907)
***The first ever performance of I Puritani in Greece, took place in Corfu, in 1837***
