Live from London pt.1

Natalie Dessay cancels, Parsifal gets a refund (i have better things to do than listening to Amy Freston) and flees to the Soho to have dinner (well, after walking around for some time). Parsifal goes back home (deep frozen!) opens his email and finds this:

Unfortunately Natalie Dessay has had to withdraw from the concert due to ill health but we are grateful to Amy Freston for agreeing to replace her at short notice.

Amy Freston was born in London and trained as a classical dancer before studying singing at the Royal Northern College of Music with Sandra Dugdale.

In 2005 she was a highly successful Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne Opera on Tour and on the strength of her performance Glyndebourne has engaged her for Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring (Sir Peter Hall, GOT), as well as Amore in L'incoronazione di Poppea (Robert Carson and Emmanuelle Haïm) and Sandman in Hansel und Gretel (Laurent Pelly and Kazuchi Ono) in the Festival. She is a frequest guest at Opera North where she sings First Niece in Peter Grimes (Richard Farnes and Phyllida Lloyd), Belinda in Dido and Aeneas (Nicholas Kok and Aletta Collins) and La Musica in Orfeo (Christopher Moulds and Christopher Alden). She also sings Elsa in David Sawer’s new work for Opera North and Antigona (Admeto) in the Göttingen Handel Festival conducted by Nicholas McGegan.

IT SEEMS THAT WE, THE AUDIENCE ARE TAKING YOUR ART A LOT MORE SERIOUSLY THAN YOU DO LADIES AND GENTLEMEN AND WE DON'T MIND FLYING 2.000 MILES JUST TO SEE YOU LIVE ON STAGE...

Hope this is the first and last cancellation for this Xmas!
Stay tuned for more Live from London!

Pity you missed the concert - Freston was wonderful, I thought.

damn bad luck... seems to be the season for cancellations - we've had two conductor and one pianest cancel so far out of four concerts at the Academia Ste Ceceila here in Rome. When you expect to hear Kessin play Prokoviev now matter how good the replacement is .....Hope the rest of the concerts go as planned.

The pity is that i was interested only in hearing Natalie, as this would be my first time, even if i admire Les Concerts d Astree and Emanuelle Haim. Thank God we still have a Cenerentola and the Bartoli recital to catch (and maybe Avenue Q tomorrow).

I attended on the 19th to the same concert in Rome; Natalie has recovered from her laryngitis, but she only sang in bach's magnificat; her role in handel's dixit dominus was undertaken by Jael Azzaretti.
Nat had a very sad and serious face, and she sang only for 5-10 minutes in all the concert, but her voice seemed quite sound. Let's hope she recovers perfectly!
