I think there is something more than Photoshop in Agnes Baltsa..but on this particular photo they have gone a bit too far...she didn't look THAT good when she was actually a young woman even though I've always liked her.
This photo shop of our dear Agnes is too plastic looking. Agnes may not be good looking in the classical sense but she is exciting, vivacious and full of life. One cannot come out of an Agnes performance without being shaken and rattled. I wish she will continue to expand her repertoire to include Herodias and the Countess in Pique Dame and to come and sing for us in Asia again. Brava Agnes!
Hey, Parsi..I really do like Agnes Baltsa. Aside from her voice, she looks to a me a very interesting person. But photographs like that..doesn't do her any favour, probably she will be laughing at it, yes ;)
THE MAGNIFICENT RECORDING OF SALOME BY KARAJAN, WITH AGNES AS HERODIADE, IS A MUST! The photo is just a flop, she looks vampish, conceited and souless, the exact opposite of what Agnes is, by the way. Not even young or beautifull. Parsi, as for the recital: I have nothing against cross-over, but her recording of greek folk songs is atrocious. Not because of her, or of her voice, but because the repertoire is off-limits for opera singers. Legato in Tsitsanis? And Theodorakis with voclises? I Ihave never heard her sing this, but her CD doesn't motivate me.. PS: The friend, Teresa, who provides a Fleming pic... Have you seen that? LOL
Yes, I have the recording of Salome released in 1977. But I hope that she will return to this role on stage again. Agnes is not a lump of old flesh yet!
Strange, how Baltsa's Greek Songs seem to divide her admirers into two camps.I think it's one of the best things she's ever recorded! Just (i.e. today) returned from a wonderful (and very warm!) holiday on - believe it or not - Lefkada. And trust me, there's nothing more beautiful than sitting in the shade, surrounded by a few olive trees, some feta cheese, olives and wine ('Land of Lefkas', of course!) at hand, listening to these songs on your mp3. Especially the live version a good friend so kindly provided me with ;-) How I would LOVE to be at the concert in September... sigh... no chance, since by then my little students/tykes will 'want' to be educated by me again, haha. As for the picture: mixed feelings, I don't think it does her justice.
in Lefkas again? You will be awarded a citizenship soon, heehehe. Hope you had a great time
I 'm among those who like the greek songs recording (not all of them) and who have watched live Agnes in this repertoire a couple of times and I really wouldnt mind watching her once again (after all, it's AGNES), but I m not going to pay 90 euros for a decent seat in a cafe-society gala. Anyways, check this
Hi Parsi! Yes, had a great time, as always. Though getting more and more crowded through the years, Lefkas is still a very charming island. Rented a house just outside Lefkas town, made a few nice trips round the island and managed to get involved in my first Greek car crash. No harm done. Thanks for the link, I'd never seen this before! Last April, Baltsa did the Greek songs in Vienna with a pianist as well, I prefer listening to them with an orchestra though. Thanks again! Hugs, Susanne

Agnes is a Goddess and I worship her and you would be amazed if you only heard her being sarcastic about her own appearance and beauty...
Photoshop disasters I would say...she has (or had) a voice. No need for shit like this.
oooh, shut up and admit that she looks fantastic!!!
She looks like an Alien
Envy...
hahahhahha

Herodias? The Strauss Herodias? But she has already sung that, circa 1978-9, a recording of her Herodias is available here
