Sadness and grief.

Wonderful danish soprano Inga Nielsen, has died yesterday,
aged 61, at a hospital in Copenhagen.

The news came as a shock to me. I had seen Inga Nielsen several times in Athens singing her usual Strauss repertoire, and i will never forget her interpretation of the Kaiserin in
"Die Frau Ohne Schatten".

The last time i saw her was in "Elektra" where she was singing the role of Chrysothemis about
1 year ago.

At parsifal's you can find recordings of both the performances

Elektra (with Nadine Secunde, Inga Nielsen, Agnes Baltsa)

Die Frau Ohne Schatten (with Eva Marton, Inga Nielsen, Franz Grundheber, Roland Hamilton, Marilyn Zschau, under Michael Schoenwandt)

Read all about Inga Nielsen at the obituary post by "mostly opera"
or the Herald Tribune

May she rest in peace.

PS. Inga Nielsen had been announced to sing Erwartung in Athens on the 25th Octber of 2007 but was replaced by soprano Elena Nebera.

What a pity!

Inga Nielsen was a protegee of Birgit Nilsson (and a student also).

She sang a wonderful Rezia (from Weber's Oberon) as well as Leonore from Beethoven's Fidelio. Not to mention the Bach cantatas, a co-operation with Helmut Rilling.

Happened to see her live in a "private" lieder recital. She was singing Hindemith song cycle Marienlieder (Rainer Maria Rilke's poems).

What bad news!
I had seen her in the performances that Parsifal states.
Rest in peace.
