Breaking News: AH SOLEIL!!!! The Romeo & Juliette of our hearts will shine together in Athens

Exclusively @ parsifal's

Parsi was the first to announce-on the 14th of August- the Rolando Villazón Recital in Athens (here), a lot before the greek press .

Now Parsi will be the first to announce that together with Roli, the Athenians will have the joy of listening to NINO MACHAIDZE, Rolando's Juliette in this summer's "Romeo et Juliette" production in Salzburg.

Parsi had also published a wide collection of youtubes of the performance some time ago that can still be found here or @my tube.

The common Villazón - Machaidze Recital will take place at the Athens Megaron, on the 29th of October.

I hope you have plenty of stuff to do on that night so that I find enough tickets for me&my friends, b&itches.

From parsifal's treasury, here is Nino Machaidze debuting as La Sonnambula in Genova, on the 28th of April 2008:

I thought I was the only one who doesn't like the last-minute partnering. Creo que tenga razon, Hericlea. Is Villazon's PR machine that desperate for a new partner that they're bringing in Maichadze? Can he not do this on his own? Yes, they were very good in Salzburg but I didn't pick up any of the frisson that exists between him and Netrebko. I'm sure it will sell out, you'll have a grand time, Parsi mou, and it will be ok. But like Hericlea, I'd rather hear Villazon by himself. He just performed Dichterlieb and Liederkranz in Jerusalem with Barenboim accompanying. Now THAT would have been a concert to hear.

It is not last minute partnering, Nino belongs to the same manager than RV, but maybe the magnetic "couple" RV and Anna wont be repeated another time.
But it is normal, chemistry exists not for everyone.
I was often in Domingo's concerts, the best suitable soprano for him is Ana Maria Martinez, but he can not sing only with her....
As regards the alone tenor concert, they need a soprano to rest and also to create anothe atmosphere with duets. Marcello Alvarez performed alone, but understood that it was a "short" concert....

The issue here is that the concert was originally listed as a solo performance. If Nino is under the same management, then her addition to the program becomes a convenient convenience. Whatever.
RV performed with Fleming in July and seems to be making a habit of duo concerts. It's fine, he's a great presence and all that. An orchestral recital is, of necessity, shorter. His lieder performances are exquisite--I hope he'll do more of those.

Mmm...i think that the Recital is still not officially announced. I mean by the Athens Megaron. If you visit their page you ll find no such listing. Even newspapers don't have any info on that. Yeaah I know Parsi is the best, but that's not the point.

Of course I would love to have Rolando on his own on-stage. I would love even more to have Rolando on MY own. But, hey! I'm not organizing this. (If I did I would have Rolando singing from the 8.30 of the 29th till the break of dawn, just for me).

Parsi--
The concert was listed on RV's web site. I've been trying to find a review of his performance in Jerusalem and could only come up with a couple of lines from the Guardian (the review covered a weekend's worth of performances of the Jerusalem Chamber Festival).
Wouldn't we all love to have Rolando doing a solo concert just for us. I'd be happy to have him juggle. Oh yeah, he can sing, if he wants.

But they ALL bring a soprano, so RV does. It is quite cilly because normaly people do not care about the accompanying person/soprano, but it seems necessary. I do not think that a tenor could perform strictly alone aria/after aria for more than 6-8(????) arias, so they "decorate" their concert with a female voice

I don't think they all do, at least not a soprano. Alvarez certainly didn't; Florez did team up in July--with none other than RV!! I agree that a solo concert is hard on a voice and after all, it's the soloist and the piano (or the orchestra) out thee, so I understand the attraction of another colleague out there. RV is such a stage presence that he is most successful when he's paired with someone else.
